The message is so often contradictory: Broadcast everything, but exercise restraint. Twitter isn’t real life, but tweets can and will get you fired or suspended.
We've been doing this online for well over a decade and yet still there’s this (largely) unanswered question: What do journalists who've built huge followings online owe to their publications via social media...who do those followers really belong to?
All this stuff is complicated. But what's *not* complicated is for newsroom leaders to understand the culture war that they're sending their employees out to report on/in every day. And recognizing intimidation tactics and harassment campaigns for what they are.
