Hey @cwarzel, tweet about our project noguiltypleasures.com one more time before you get banned for pointing out billionaires suck ass.

this part is beside the point but it's also ever more proof that has absolutely no clue how his own platform works. no worse strategy for the 'own the libs crowd' than banning the people they see as 'the opposition'

just chefs kiss stuff that my feed is full of ads suggesting i buy stock in the owner of this website’s other company

the old guard of twitter did NOT do a great job with this stuff either, mind you. i wrote like 70 stories over 3 years about how bad a job they did. but at the very least they had, like, object permanence and wanted to at least be *seen* as knowing how to do their jobs.

that's why talking about this stuff is ...worthless! it's like if you had a 7 year old making policy. you'd be like...that rule is bad! but you don't think about the implications bc the person is 7 and they will just change their minds and pretend whatever happened didn't happen

i imagine the broad nature of this policy theoretically renders the site unusable...except they won't enforce it because i don't think they have the staff to and bc it's ridiculous. anyhow...again the real rule is that one guy will decide based on whim what happens here

So any photo that includes another person in it that hasn't given "express authorization" (written? oral?) is now technically banned on the platform. Pretty wild. Any exceptions are on a case by case basis.

know it's always basically just been like this with consolidated control /ownership of big social comms platforms but musk owning twitter is the purest extension of it—so much so that there is no pretense of 'connecting the world' it's just an insecure dude's house party we're at

like, it feels not worth thinking hard about anything that happens on this website anymore because the website is just an extension of a dude now - doesn't mean it's not important but like...why should there be any debate? it's just one guy who wants to run it for his amusement

i very much get why having these content moderation conversations is still very important but it almost feels worthless to point out the hypocrisy. elon's going to act on whim, not policy and use the platform to further his own goals/image above all else. that's twitter now.

it makes sense but it’s also just so ugh that these accounts were all just preserved in amber and just snap back into your feed (in my case bc i followed a lot of cretins for work in like 2017)

if the whole fusion thing doesn't work out maybe we can harness charismatic celebrities getting drunk together for content as a means of alternative power

This is one of the most wholesome things I've seen. Lizzo is 100% Dignified Lady at the beginning and the two of them are literally howling with laughter by the end. youtube.com/watch?v=bbeenv

I've been really fascinated by the work of who really rang the alarm bells on FTX and very well may have accelerated the whole collapse. When I found out he's a doc who does crypto investigations in his spare time I decided to call him up!

I always read Glenn Greenwald's feed because of the ever-changing range of topics covered and elevation of different points of view

Every one of these outlets - The Atlantic, The New Yorker, HuffPost, Vice, Vox, CNN, Daily Beast, NBC, NYT tech reporters, Brooklyn-based liberal digital outlets - write the same shit every day, with the same trite ideas, no dissent, just worthless platitudinous liberal shit.

there is somebody who tweets about this a lot and i am sorry i can't remember...but the gist is that basically throughout history everyone used to be always constantly fucked up and not being like totally fucked up all the time is a reasonably new thing

I think his work — tracing blockchain transactions but then coming up against big black boxes where money in centralized exchanges can't be traced — shows the lie at the heart of this ecosystem
