Open-source is valuable; but it is impossible, for researchers to check code by reading source code; ground truth datasets and system tests are needed. Gari Lerma-Usabiaga and friends are building a validation framework.

Latest work: A simple robust method for isolating and removing venous effects in fMRI. Acquisition agnostic (standard- or high-resolution data, GE or SE, etc.). Code and sample data available online.

Latest work from the lab. Noise correlations have surprising properties in moderately complex scenarios. We are taking steps to understand how neuronal-level correlations manifest in population (fMRI) measurements.

Konrad Kording advised at today's talk when seeking a mentor/lab: 1) Read their latest papers. 2) Figure out what their next obvious paper will be based on current work. 3) Propose working on that project to them AND THEN they will have to hire you.

Our latest work (@WinawerLab ). ECoG broadband and fMRI BOLD responses are remarkably consistent, and can be fit using the same image-computable model. ECoG gamma, however, is quite different, and is elicited by only specific stimulus types.

Also, the paper includes movie visualizations of the 0.8-mm fMRI data. Informative for understanding and assessing data quality. And maybe useful as eye candy. Full movies at

Very happy to announce that the preprint for our object concept and object image database is now online! We systematically sampled a set of 1854 object concepts & identified 26107 high-quality images of them (>=12 examples per object), all freely available for academic purposes!
