Curt McCarthy’s Tweets

On the left, Republican Senator Mike Lee feigns outrage during the State of the Union when President Biden suggests that some Republicans want to cut Social Security and Medicare. On the right, Mike Lee says he wants to get rid of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

If you have teenagers, and they spend past the limit on a credit card—you pay for it. But you don’t allow their bad spending habits to continue. You change their behavior so it never happens again. Now it’s time for Washington to change its behavior too.

In the 1950s, CEOs were paid 20x more than the average worker. In the 1980s, CEOs were paid 59x more. In 2009, CEOs were paid 180x more. Today, CEOs are paid 399x more than the average worker. We must put an end to this rampant greed and inequality.

BREAKING: We've introduced a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and the irresponsible SCOTUS decisions that came before it. Unrestricted dark money has no place in our elections or democracy. We need to return power to people. Once and for all.

Bannon is not happy destroying only American democracy. He also helped radicalize Brazilians against their government. Why is this man not in prison following his conviction for contempt?
Quote Tweet
Bannon is attempting to instigate a coup in Brazil. Eduardo Bolsonaro puts out a video of Steve Bannon this morning, where Bannon tells them their election was stolen and praises people protesting in the streets: “It’s going to be very interesting to see how that plays out.”

Less than two years since over 100 House Republicans voted to overturn the 2020 election, even after a violent attack on the Capitol by Trump supporters, the GOP paid no major penalty and managed to reclaim control of the House of Representatives today. Astonishing. Shocking.

So... First, the #j6 committee was biased and one-sided and we weren't getting the full story. Then, the former president was called on to testify. Finally, he's suing to avoid testifying. What's wrong? He doesn't want to talk about all the election fraud? But why...? 🙄🥴

Former President Trump has refused to comply with the Select Committee’s subpoena requiring him to appear for a deposition. His attorneys have made no attempt to negotiate an appearance, and his lawsuit parades out many of the same arguments that courts have rejected repeatedly.

Let's be clear. Eli Lilly should apologize for increasing the price of insulin by over 1,200% since 1996 to $275 while it costs less than $10 to manufacture. The inventors of insulin sold their patents in 1923 for $1 to save lives, not to make Eli Lilly's CEO obscenely rich.

Some good tips here as official government agencies lose their "official" badges on Twitter and anyone can impersonate them for $8.
Quote Tweet
Well, that didn't last long. As our "official" designation vanishes and our @Twitter blue check mark is probably next to go, a quick note on best ways to confirm the identity of government Twitter accounts around you.

Without the major turnout of younger voters, we would have seen a very different outcome in last night's elections. But now I am asking the younger generations: continue to stay engaged in the struggle. We have an enormous amount of work ahead of us.

1. It's astonishing how wrong so many of the predictions of a 'red wave/tsunami' were. I for one am fed up with pundits and commentators getting things so, so wrong & then just... moving on. So here's a thread/reminder of some of the worst midterm predictions. Read/share/enjoy:

Looks like #NoRedWave. Will accept that election denialism, stroking Trump’s ego, claiming Biden caused post-pandemic *global* inflation, & threatening to take away rights & social programs isn’t working? Not holding my breath, but it’d be nice to see *some* introspection.

NEW from me + @BrandyZadrozny + @JasonAbbruzzese + @David_Ingram: Twitter decimated the teams primarily responsible for keeping it free of election misinformation, potentially hobbling the company’s capabilities four days before Tuesday’s election. nbcnews.com/tech/misinform

A message to my Republican colleagues: No. You don’t reduce inflation by giving tax breaks to billionaires and cutting benefits for the elderly, the sick, the children and the poor. You combat inflation by taking on corporate greed.

There are literal men with guns at drop boxes in Arizona, while the Wisconsin GOP gubernatorial candidate just vowed to establish one party rule in his state, and yet apparently it’s Biden’s speech on the importance of democracy that is the ‘escalation.’ Sheesh.
Quote Tweet
It’s not the end of the world, but it’s definitely not good. Biden’s speech was an escalation. And there was no reason to do that in the days leading up to an election when things are already very tense.
