Things I wish I had focused more when I first learned to code and maybe you should too 🤷🏾‍♀️: A 🧵 1. using git for EVERY PROJECT. Just learn the basics. Push, pull, branches, clone etc. It won't take long to learn the basics if you do them consistently.

If you’re currently learning JavaScript, I just want you to know that I’ve cried and yelled out of frustration of either not understanding it or not getting something to work. Personally, JS is hard. I still don’t get it. If you’re feeling that way, you’re def not alone lol TRUST

Learn programming fundamentals before you learn the shinny new libraries. Fundamentals are forever, shinny libraries are short term.

I've tried listening to a lot of different types of music at work to keep my focus, but I've found that techno (specifically minimal techno) keeps me the most focused without being distracted. What's your work music?

bunch of friends and I are talking about a conf idea called FuckedUpCon where you give a tech talk on how you fucked up and almost brought down the company. cool idea, would have lots of humbling learnings, but probably be super crazy to deal with liability-wise.

Protip: If you're stuck on a coding issue, sleep on it. That way when you wake up and try to fix it and it's still broken, at least you got some sleep.

The ADHD trait of "a million projects" is actually an adaptive strategy for brains that very specifically can't do what they set out to. By working "sideways" on many things, you get a *lot* done—while feeling like you "never do anything" (i.e., what you're "supposed" to do). 1/

Want to do a side project as part of learning to code but you can’t come up with an idea? Do this: Block out 30 mins a day for the next week. Spend that time doing nothing but brainstorming app ideas.
