No model of food production or distribution is perfect and when it works in one place, it doesn’t always work somewhere else. Can it happen, sure. Is it ideal? Depends. Lol.

I’m a small food producer and have never heard anyone say they are afraid of local food. Attending local farmers markets all I hear is how grateful our customers are that we do it.

It was just flying monkeys from a more prominent wanna be guru responding to a difference of opinions in a different thread. lol

@ZwartblesIE Surprised to see that - in Germany, by now every supermarket chain advertises for locally grown food (among many others) and farmer's markets are quite popular. Many restaurants advertise they're using locally grown seasonal products, too. - Još 3 druga odgovora

Depends on population density. Easy in Cornwall, not so easy in Birmingham.

But surely there are allotments even in Birmingham? And everyone, even in a tower block can grow SOMETHING!!

People don't want to face the realities of food production. They don't want to sacrifice their mangoes or their out of season fruits. They don't want to make eye contact with the cow that will become their beef. They don't want a local slaughterhouse or farmers driving tractors.

So very true!! They want their watery strawberries in March

Around here, locally sourced foods are a very hot trend for both home and restaurants. Helps supports small farms, more sustainable and better quality.
