My fear is that Apple's going to figure out why this is a problem after there are no indies left.

@chockenberry OK feeling a little stupid. I'm sure we understand the issue but what should Apple do? Are you saying is an app store problem?

@ctp Apple should design the rules and features of the App Store to encourage the sustainable development of quality apps.

@ctp @chockenberry The App Store is far from perfect, but the root of the problem is nearly-infinite competition, which Apple can’t solve.

@marcoarment @ctp @chockenberry I agree. There's certainly changes to the App Store that could be made but I doubt they'd flip the equation.

@gte @marcoarment @ctp @chockenberry My list of App Store gripes is much shorter after iOS 8, but it will take time to understand the impact

@drbarnard @marcoarment @ctp @chockenberry Yup. But Apple has an incentive (correctly) to optimize for their customers rather than us.

@gte @marcoarment @ctp But that’s the root of @chockenberry’s point. At some point not optimizing for contentious developers means there…

@gte @marcoarment @ctp Hahaha! Conscientious, not contentious. But I supposed that does describe me and @chockenberry as well.

@drbarnard @marcoarment @ctp @chockenberry Basically, I'm not sure Apple thinks it *needs* indies when it has all these big name brands.

@gte @marcoarment @ctp @chockenberry Apple has the big trees covered & generally focuses on them, but underestimates the value of the forest

@ctp @chockenberry Here’s one thing Apple could do: stop making free or 99¢ pricing a condition of being featured.

@dwineman @ctp Right now, the App Store is about "great deals". I'd like to see it more like the ADA's and highlight great products.

@chockenberry @ctp Exactly. Right now they’re pushing bundles (reduced prices!), free apps, free games. It’s the Sam Goody bargain bin.

@dwineman @chockenberry @ctp …but whether to optimize for indies now is a different question entirely. Customer appeal is clear focus.

@ctp The top lists, lack of trials, and lack of upgrade pricing/transfers instead incentivize shallow, cheap apps. Also, need better search.

@ctp there are many markets where small developers are successful. the app store doesn't appear to be one of them. that seems like a problem
