LyX? Or even LibreOffice, anyone? I have developed a strong allergy to MS Office and it gives me a rash, otherwise I love it. Wait, I meant "hate". But does it mean you have to go full LaTeX? Imho, not.

I mean, there will be technical problems with anything. With LaTeX I have to have a higher basic level of tech knowledge, which is fine; it's just occasionally annoying. And at least it's usually fixable :)

So you're now debugging papers?

well, the results in this paper are automated from start to finish. But there's a LaTeX compile bug in the actual paper that I am having to dive into to figure out! Very frustrating.

add Overleaf, and then you can also get the delight of intermittent internet access ...that said I've found Overleaf is pretty useful for collaborating with those folks who can TeX but aren't yet comfortable with git

What I absolutely LOVE about LaTeX is making beautiful documents, and having robust version control and synchronization among multiple authors with git (or your rcs of choice). I require all my trainees to use LaTeX. But I will concede that .bst files are gruesome.

I love it most for dynamic includes. It is the only maintainable approach for content reuse, yet no other document creation tool does it.
