The hardest thing an intelligent person can do is to admit their ignorance in an area where everyone expects them to already know how to do the thing…and be vulnerable while asking basic questions. Only intelligent people do this very difficult thing, I have noticed.

My wife and I never baby talk to our kids. We use full sentences and a wide vocabulary including complex words. My son is 3 and can carry a full conversation. Adults at family gatherings are shocked at his social aptitude. My daughter isn’t even 2 and she uses 4-syllable words.

I think tbh it’s a case of dammed if you do dammed if you don’t. If you do assume people are technical you make people who aren’t, dumb. If you don’t assume they’re technical, you patronise people and get accused of not believing they’re technical because of X.

Contrary to popular belief, never assume all people are technical, because you just end up looking like pretentious twat. Especially when you assume they know things they don’t, and wouldn’t have any business knowing, and wouldn’t ever know.
