Feckssake, this bloviating windbag is actually making me nostalgic for *Margaret Thatcher* (spits, throws salt over shoulder). She was evil but she was capable of understanding the science and making her mind up. Not a gormless buffoon, in other words.https://twitter.com/cstross/status/1315320205686566912 …

His personal skills consist of spinning lies to reinforce the prejudices of bigots, and spawning child support lawsuits. He stumbled out of an Evelyn Waugh novel wearing clown shoes, tripped over them, and fell into 10 Downing Street: he can’t even bluff convincingly at PM’s QT. https://twitter.com/flying_rodent/status/1315314000926855170 …

Yep. Thatcher had a vision of what she wanted the country to be like, and she competently and intelligently made that happen. She was appalling in myriad ways, but she at least understood that governing was a thing she was meant to be doing, and why it was important.

Johnson, like Trump, doesn't even seem able to understand that actions have consequences, much less why those consequences might matter.

I've had similar thoughts of late. Thatcher *spit* may have been evil, but she was competently evil.

Even Blair. He was somewhat delusional but he wasn’t *stupid*. (What I’d prefer would be the brains of Gordon Brown, the charisma of Tony Blair, and the common sense of Nicola Sturgeon, all in a centre-left package. Oh, and a unicorn.)

Well, chaotic evil is always more messy than lawful evil... "We both know I'm not above killing children, but I'm not wasteful. I take life for specific reasons." President Snow, in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay

Power without responsibility, that's what Johnson & Trump both wanted (and got, at least for now). We're carrying the can for it.

“The lady’s not for turning” (Reader: she ditched Friedman’s snake oil economics within 18 months—she just didn’t announce it in those terms).

Don't worry, Thatcher's back in the form of Priti Patel, mind you, minus the intelligence and education. That's what they mean when they say, 'came back wrong' on Buffy, isn't it?
