Can confirm. (Live in a 200 year old apartment, haven’t travelled more than 5 miles from my front door in 6 months.)https://twitter.com/SteveBellovin/status/1290759482260238336 …

One of my grad school profs spent a semester visiting at Cambridge. A prof there told him, "In the UK, 100 miles is a long distance; in the US; 100 years is a long time."

Spent most of my life in a house built around 1660, renovated c. 1720, some parts possibly older. And, yeah, distances... But our railways do keep getting faster. While some guy in California is trying to invent an underground railway.

I prefer "laid back", or "relaxed". Perhaps would stretch to "sleepy". Whichever, I think the gist is that not a great deal happens here on the whole 😂

Put another way. the "New World" just has not matured enough yet. Were it an aircraft, it would have fabric wings and a 20 hp motor.

Our house was built in 1974, but our city was pre-Roman, then Roman, then post-Roman. Walking into town is a journey of nearly 2000 years.

I was always told: “Britain has history. The US has geography.” I just never thought I’d hear it now has the fascists.

I've been watching a lot of old Time Team episodes and they're like "This Victorian rubbish is cluttering up the archaeology!" and I'm thinking "That stuff is older than my *state's existence* "

Won't take public transportation. If I can't walk there in 10 minutes it is not an option. Most destinations have too many people in 'em anyway. Haven't been outside since Saturday morning. Thought I was a recluse before March. HAH! Redefined now.
