Plurals explored: 1. The regular first person plural: “we” 2. The monarch’s first person singular: “we” 3. The Borg’s first person plural-is-singular: “we” 4. The football fan’s third person plural possessive (their team): “we” … I really don’t understand this language.

You ever seen Dave Allen's sketch about teaching his son to tell the time? "A day is composed of a day and a night." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QVPUIRGthI …

We are the monarchy. Your financial distinctiveness will be added to our own. Resistance is futile.

I love "one". It's used as a formal first person singular and a generic second person singular, and it declines as a third person singular. I'd take it for my own pronoun but people already think I'm too pretentious.

When I refer to the team I root for as "they" because they are an entity separate from myself, it confuses people I'm talking to. The "we'ing" of your team is the worst and I refuse to ever yield to it.

'We' are not the team: 'we' are the club. Players come and go - fans are there for life.

(Some of) my immigrant students were confused by me saying “We lost Friday night.” They said “We’re not on the football team.” It’s a school spirit thing—those players represent all of us! I’d say—but that very concept is culturally bound.
