I think this is very accurate. I know that I said "stop saying Dems can only win if they do what you say," but I'm just gonna pitch again that Dems sorely need to openly admit that they have a diverse coalition whose interests don't always line up.https://twitter.com/MattGrossmann/status/995311112030695424 …
The biggest problem is that Dems have not delivered on POLICY for major priorities of lower class whites OR most minorities period. Under Obama, they delivered on rhetoric and symbolism for minorities in a way that alienated whites (bc those white people are racist).

Trump simply reversed the formula: don't deliver on policy for anybody but the rich (to a FAR FAR greater degree than Obama), but make sure your rhetoric and symbolism buoys cultural conservatives (aka deplorables) and alienates minorities, feminists, progressives, etc.

Anyway, Dems have to figure out how to say to BOTH lower-class whites AND disaffected minority voters, "here's how we're actually going to deliver on policy for you, and as for the rhetoric, we'll try not to bash cultural conservatives but we will celebrate diversity."

Meanwhile, maybe it's just from being in a relatively rich area of Texas, but I can't help but feel like the message that's getting through most strongly is "Trump is a incompetent, dangerous barbarian; we're sane and civil, vote for us (and cmon, aren't brown kids sympathetic?)"
