Huh, that just clarified a lot for me. And I think it is a reasonable, livable compromise for conservatives. Conservative policy ideas are not to be out-of-hand dismissed, but the existence of racism and sexism etc is not to be questioned.
Or like, "regardless of the reason, black people encounter the police more often. So [insert police policy here] will affect black communities in ways xyz..."

And yeah that forces conservatives to be upfront about their analysis of WHY black people encounter the police more often, or the fact of residential segregation. And maybe they make a discredited claim in giving the why. But at least they address the obvious facts.
