The themes of Infinity War were straightforwardly liberal individualist and anti-collectivist. The extremes were Cap’s insistence on each individual life at any cost and Thanos’ complete disregard for individuals in favor of collective needs.

It actually (ugh) reminded me of Ross Douthat’s thing about the families with kids who are ruled brain-dead but want to use their resources to keep trying to save their loved ones even though the medical establishment says it won’t work and is a poor use of resources.

And there’s a parallel bc superheroes, like rich ppl, have more resources to save those they love. (Of course, superheroes, directly opposite to rich ppl, also put themselves and their loved ones at far greater risk.)

Anyway I keep seeing dumb takes on how superheroes are inherently un-progressive and that is wrong. Huge mainstream entertainment like this always reinforces the dominant ideology, which in America is liberalism.
