People that just found out we’re black and proud in college or like circa 2013 are still invited to the cookout, but we need to recognize we get invited into a lot of spaces, and need to actively work to not talk over ppl who didn’t have the option to become conscious in college.
Like, I can be clear that it is 100% not my fault that my parents put me in white people school (or theirs for that matter!) but also equally aware that white people would LOVE to make me a spokesperson for things other folks know FAR better than I do.
anyway just a thought bc I have seen a fair number of tweets being annoyed at how many of the black folks that have a hashtag platform are those of us that "got woke" in college (or after) and like had a white best friend growing up or something.
