Also this all feels disingenuous to me in a world where some beliefs are still subject to state repression. What if someone showed up to this “safe space” with their opinion that America is an active evil in the world and should be destroyed? How soon would the FBI show up?
Liberalism is important and useful but it’s intellectually lazy when people act like it is a panacea. It has its place and its limits like everything else. Rather than just shouting BE MORE LIBERAL!! in any space/issue where liberalism doesn’t work great...
I wish people would be more thoughtful about the limits of liberalism, and, more importantly, about how to create nonviolent means of working through those disagreements that cannot be effectively mediated by liberalism.
