Actually there are a lot of people who fall into the category of super catchy singles, difficult/dense/very genre-specific albums. If you really go back and listen to Prince's first few albums, not everything is as easy on the ears as Little Red Corvette. Brilliant, but angular.

These are funny examples for me, because I doubt I go more than a few days without hearing at least a single from Prince or Wu-Tang (especially if you include their solo albums). But, that doesn't detract from your point.

Agreed, for sure, but that's what's so great about them. Deep cuts for those who want deep cuts, pop songs for those who want pop songs.
