OK I’m listening to this new Tinashe in hopes that my prior irritation with her was misplaced but if she gives me female low-voice high-misery drugs and depression R&B like The Weeknd without the MJ impression, I’ma be mad.
(The Janet comparison indicates that this is definitely on an upward trend. This is low-voice R&B for sure, though.)

BUT truth be told so is SZA and I love SZA so.

k so far I can rock with Ooh La La and Me So Bad. I think... if I were more invested in Tinashe as a personality, I would get more value out of these Bad Bitch™ lyrics.

Oh no! Homegirl pulled out some Last Chorus Belts On Salt. Okay! I think she suffers from the same as a long of alternative-y/artistic-y artists where the vocal is mixed too far in the back for my taste. But credit where credit’s due that was NOT a low-vocal performance.

Faded Love is bad. The verse is OK. But the chorus is corny. I truly think somebody needs to roll through and bless Tinashe with some chords. A beat with some eight bar phrases maybe! And maybe even (gasp) more than one progression in the song!!

No Contest is... probably the best record on the album for me. And like. That’s vocals. VOCALS. I might just stan No Contest, tbh.

However, I think it’s not just a mixing problem. I think she doesn’t articulate. Kinda like Anita Baker.

Y’all know what she be saying?

Okay No Contest is very good but honestly I might go back to hating on Tinashe just bc her stans really are under the impression that she is some Great Artist and like... no sis. Not everybody who is talented and not popping like that is a Great Artist. Some just ain’t popping.

Argh. On a second listen the vocal on No Contest is clearly talented but I wish she had a little more control bc that is needed to really make this kind of vocal pop. Still, a strong vocal on a very good song. Best track on the album for me, for sure.

I like provoking stans. I mean, I would never, EVER provoke like... the hive or some foolish shit like that. But like, idk, I am excited for Igloo Aurelius to drop something terrible so I can shit on it the day it comes out and anger the stans.
