Like, for women, beauty is oppressive and pretty hurts, but also there is something nice about feeling bad about your physical appearance and then being able to rock a great outfit and do your makeup and your hair and then feel way better about how you look.
We really should make an effort to give men more resources to make themselves more attractive. Besides, like, spending months upon months in a gym.

I just think there are a lot of men who would benefit from that more short-term attractiveness boost, but I don't think we train men in how to do that/there are fewer resources out there for men to do that.

I'm not saying this is like A Priority, I'm just saying it's like... something good that I think we will naturally evolve towards as "a man" becomes less something one needs for socioeconomic status and more something one wants bc he makes your life better in meaningful ways.

The big issue in male-female relationships rn is that men's stock has gone way down, bc a man is no longer necessary for a (straight) woman to live A Fulfilled And Financially Stable Life, esp if the sex ain't good, but the culture hasn't caught up to that practical reality.

Even if you accept the boring evolutionary biology argument that men are More Visual (I do not), the value of physical attractiveness in overall happiness for (heterosexual) men and women will at least move towards convergence.

And the culture has to catch up in meaningful ways that will reap benefits both for men (finding more desirable sexual partners, self-esteem) and for women (more desirable sexual partners!)

And the weird thing is, I would TOTALLY be cool with it if this led to a culture of young men learning to work out more outside of sports (like the gays already do), and SUPER annoyed if it led to an increased emphasis on sports for young men (which it well might).
