Acting is weird bc you spend all this time with the text outside of rehearsal and you can’t help but figure out things about how the text feels from your POV, like where your arc goes, but all that can be totally invalidated in rehearsal.
Directing is different bc the same thing happens but you ALLOW it to happen. Anything you think has to happen for the scene to work, you can keep asking for. As an actor... not so much.

If I’m gonna get back into acting I have to learn to memorize super super FLAT. No affect, no energy, no angle. And I have to turn off that analytical brain, at least at first, so I can let the words mean what they need to mean to do something to the other people in the scene.
