1998 was A Year for R&B. The nominees for female R&B performance were "Are You That Somebody," "I Get Lonely," "Rose Is Still A Rose," "Tyrone," and "Doo Wop (That Thing)" (even though off that album it should have been Ex-Factor but w/e).

Same year: All My Life, The Boy Is Mine, and Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation album.

OTOH apparently Will Smith won best rap performance that year. LOL. The Grammys are so wack and always have been.

Gettin' Jiggy Wit It was judged by the Recording Industry Association of America to be a better "solo rap performance" than Hard Knock Life. Man, the Grammys have no shame.

Also R. Kelly is trash so fuck him but the fact that the Grammys thought something called "Sunny Came Home" was the record of the year the same year as "I Believe I Can Fly" is like... objectively wrong. I Believe I Can Fly was just the record of the year that year. Period.
