I didn’t want to pick a fight with commies bc I don’t know enough Marxism to fight about it but some foolish commie is critiquing postmodernism and if your Marxism doesn’t recognize the limitations of humans’ ability to transcend their POV, I think it is bad & prolly racist.

Like, it needn’t quite be moral/epistemological relativism, bc you can still assert that truth exists (you kind have to), but you must must must understand how the way humans are set up constrains our ability to ascertain the truth.

(Which is not even postmodernism it is literally the whole object of the critique of pure reason, although obviously we acknowledge identity as an obstacle to the functioning of reason in a way Kant did not).

It really, really frustrates me how otherwise intelligent people are unable to understand simple epistemological ideas that are grounded in lived experience, in the popular (read: twitter) discourse AND in the philosophical tradition!! Not to mention literary tradition!

And then the right calls this very same POV (the understanding that experience constrains our access to truth) “cultural Marxism,” and I just go, well you need to tell some friggin Marxists this belongs to them.

And obviously it’s not just Marxists by any means, it’s everybody. And it just is so fucking disrespectful to me that people act like this is some anti-rationalist, ignorant idea that popped up on twitter in 2013. It is grounded like hundreds of years of serious thought!

Anyway read your William Blake or just actually pay attention to Shakespeare and then get back to me. (Understanding how perspective works on a lot of different levels is like... THE cultural achievement of European history and they just VIOLENTLY ignore it.)

Treating Marxism like Paul on the road to Damascus, blinding you to your blindness and opening your eyes to your True Sight, is like... stupid! Just really, really stupid! And is an uncritical descendent of ideologies these same people claim to disdain and just A R G H!!!

(Also I am not anti-Marxist I am pro-Marxist I am just anti-modernism, really. There’s no magic key to reality that just by reading this book you Know The Truth now and can See All Clearly. Marxist analysis is useful, maybe vital, but doesn’t transcend normal human limitations.)
