Musicals are still not gay enough. I dunno if it’s just the normative underpinnings of the form, but I can’t think of a good gay farce-type musical. Or, I can think of MANY VERY gay farce-type musicals... but very few with gay characters who kiss.
The fact that La Cage is still the biggest gay musical and is has I Am What I Am in it... like besides that there’s Bare, which is About Being Gay, and there’s Falsettos which... iiiiiiiiisn’t?

And obviously Kinky Boots but in theory Lola... could... be... straight? Anyway they don’t have a boyfriend, they don’t kiss a boy, it’s Not Very Gay despite being Very Gay which is the broadway brand.

Oh duh, Rent, but the two queer couples are minor characters and the leads are straight. Spider-woman, but again, not enough boys kissing (and it’s like... gay tragedy.) New Brain is sufficiently gay, and is about a thing that happens to a gay character, not About Being Gay.

Road Show is pretty gay! Yank, too, but these are ofc both off-bway shows... anyway, there’s a shortage of musicals starring queer characters that are Gay but not About Gayness.
