I wonder if Osama bin Laden intended to ramp the US’ endless war machine back up. I wonder how far he saw beyond “bait the US into stomping around the Middle East, fucking things up, making people miserable, making people hate them, creating more radicals.”
Or if he even saw that far? If it was just “the US is the heart of imperialism, I’m going to strike at that heart as violently as I can, that’s my whole motivation.” Was there strategy there or just hate?
I think he well understood what he was doing. Sun Tzu said 'no nation has ever benefited from protracted war.' It drains the country's treasure and morale.
