YEP. Came down to Dallas expecting a radically different rental market and like... not so much. And there was just a big fight in one of the larger suburbs about more high density housing vs suburban McMansion property values.

Oh, came to Dallas from New York, that is.

As someone who moved from SF to NYC, NYC's honestly not bad once you remember that you're replacing the $800/month car (payment, gas, maintenance) with a $121 subway pass and maybe a hundred a month in Ubers and/or rentals. SF/LA are a whole different world.

So eventually, I'll move to Dallas, but it'll be for major improvements in the quality of my housing, not drastic reductions in my cost.

Idk about the improvements in quality either, unless you're at the home-buying stage. But I had a ridiculously good deal in Jersey City so I'm a little biased.

1) Yes, I'm at the home-buying stage. $435,000 in Sunnyside. 2) I've learned the hard way (Ulcers) that I value commute above all else, and a 6 minute commute in Cleveland/Dallas/etc. is affordable in a way that 6 minutes in NYC *NEVER* will be.

Very true. If I wanted a >10min commute or a 2nd br those are both affordable here in a way they'd never be in New York.
