YEP. Came down to Dallas expecting a radically different rental market and like... not so much. And there was just a big fight in one of the larger suburbs about more high density housing vs suburban McMansion property values.
Idk about the improvements in quality either, unless you're at the home-buying stage. But I had a ridiculously good deal in Jersey City so I'm a little biased.

1) Yes, I'm at the home-buying stage. $435,000 in Sunnyside. 2) I've learned the hard way (Ulcers) that I value commute above all else, and a 6 minute commute in Cleveland/Dallas/etc. is affordable in a way that 6 minutes in NYC *NEVER* will be.

Very true. If I wanted a >10min commute or a 2nd br those are both affordable here in a way they'd never be in New York.
