Texas Republicans have done a better job than most Republicans in keeping corporatism with a thin veil of individualism & tolerance as the senior partner in the Republican coalition, with overt bigotry as the junior partner.
Texas Republicans are very fortunate to have elected Greg Abbott. If Dan Patrick were the face of the state party in this election cycle, they'd be in even bigger trouble than they're in already.

However, with quiet stirrings of rebellion in the evangelical megachurches (which are the ideological glue of the Texas Republican coalition) and the departure of Joe Straus from the State House, I just wonder how much longer they'll be able to swing it.

I would also LOVE to see some opinion polling on how opinions about gay marriage in Texas have shifted over the past 30 years among evangelical Christian voters (of all races).
