Also, idk why Demi fans want Games as a single. It is pretty catchy but blue eyed soul a la P!nk's first album is actually not her lane. There's a way to sing hard over groove music (see: Aretha Franklin) but Demi hasn't quite mastered that, imo.
So when she does like Timberland/Darkchild style late-90s/early 2000s R&B her performance never quite lands, for me, cause she's singing too hard. I think her lane is closer to 80s Whitney voice vs machine with a soul undercurrent type thing.

There's a style recently of white ppl R&B from like Bieber, Nick Jonas, Demi, etc., that I am really into. I wonder if there are songwriters or producers in common on these tracks...? Hmm

I think the stuff I like has a lot more sparseness/minimalism in the production and a lot more build/dramatic range than the stuff that feels too Timbaland for me.

Not that Timbaland had no use for sparseness but I don't think there's as much dramatic build in his tracks, they're more setting up a groove and riding it the whole song, rather than starting sparse and building to thick, dense tracks.
