A lot of y'all can't rock with Wrinkle In Time bc you fell down on the imaginative work of identifying with a little black girl. A mighty, rich black king? Sure. A little black girl who loves her daddy and her brother to the end of the universe and back? Y'all ain't there yet.

I mean the first 4 times I read it were before I learnt about mitichondria in school (I'm a 1979 baby) and though I looked it up in the encyclopaedia I was too young to understand. Still, it was thrilling to ponder these mysterious concepts. -
One of the things I love most about L'Engle's books is that she spoke to kids in a non-patronising, aspirational way. She got the balance just right.
