A lot of y'all can't rock with Wrinkle In Time bc you fell down on the imaginative work of identifying with a little black girl. A mighty, rich black king? Sure. A little black girl who loves her daddy and her brother to the end of the universe and back? Y'all ain't there yet.

Very sad actually because this powerful book meant so much to me as a kid and the narrative is so watered down that it halfway loses its grasp on the transcendent power of the book. The movie was too shy on demostrating the science that drove the story.
Shrug. I mean... I feel you, I get it, etc... but I loved the movie. LOVED it. I thought the visuals were absolutely astonishing and most of the critique in the Guardian felt like they made their mind up about the look before they got to Camazotz.

And I get missing some of the science and philosophy and theology, for sure. But for me, I neither needed it nor particularly missed it. For me, the film successfully gave force to the love conquers all cliches it was built on, which imo is ultimately the point.

Amen to all of this. I think Ava & team succeeded in giving the film a strong message for our time. Adapting a beloved book to film is always going to be controversial for the book stans.

I loved the visuals too. The CG of the background on Uriel was a bit fuzzy and stilted but all the other visuals were really gorgeous. I liked Oprah's sequined brow a lot
