It’s very very unethical, of course, and unethical of me to envy it. But also very human, to want every story to be completely and inviolably about you, despite how obviously it isn’t.

CMBYN and Enigma Variations are both haunted by the wealth disparity between the protagonists and the people around them, and yet have not the slightest doubt that they have every right to put these loud emotions at the center of everything. I love-hate-envy that.
