A lot of the tankies I see defending the USSR/communist nations basically say that the US was just as bad which like... idk why that would inspire you to hashtag try socialism. "Have a violent revolution so your society can suck in a different way!" is not good marketing

which is not to say that a socialist nation is not in principle better than a capitalist one, nor that I am uninterested in hashtag trying socialism. I just feel like... maybe we can admit that some of the previous tries weren't great, just like we do of "liberal democracies."

I think that work is VERY useful in saying "the USSR doesn't prove socialism is evil," btw. It's just not an argument in itself. I imagine that in the ~*~socialist future~*~ the Russian revolution should probably be seen similarly to how Cromwell is taught, no?

Like: liberal democracy good, Cromwell's attempt... an important milestone but also not the ideal practice. And also like Britain's transition to liberal democracy, if the imperial US DOES transition to socialism, it is likely to be gradual as with the British monarchy.

And perhaps there will still be a ceremonial function for capitalists to serve in socialist America. They can be figureheads of the nationalized capital funds that are actually run by the people via secure cell phone voting from home.

But whatever don't listen to me about socialism and communism bc I haven't actually studied and so am quite ignorant.

I will also add that this comes from a very Western POV, bc as bad as it is, capitalist liberal democracy did represent a historical step forward for white-majority nations, just as I hope socialism will represent for us all.

But for non-Western nations, many of which had more equitable governance structures prior to western contact/colonialism (I believe), capitalist liberal democracy may have been a step backwards.
