Corollary: people underestimate the value of social media (esp twitter, tumblr, and other semi-anonymous sites heavy on interacting with people you don’t know irl) in creating spaces where non-normative ideas can flourish (for good and for ill, but mostly for good.)

Mostly for good, imo, bc the number of good, counterhegemonic ideas that are embedded in mainstream culture are far outweighed by the number of bad, prohegemonic ideas in mainstream culture. So creating space for ideas don’t fit the mainstream will do more good than harm.
