Please tell me you actually know nobody trans thinks surgeries—or ANYTHING involving the medical community—defines your gender? Tell me you’re just being ignorant for the RTs. Please.
Sometimes, they get it wrong, and they assign “male” to someone who is actually female. (This is the basic, simplistic version of a trans narrative; many people experience it this way, many others do not).

Or they assign “female” to a person who is actually male. Or neither of those gender labels fits a person’s identity. In any case, sometimes ppl want surgery to bring their external appearance in line with their internal identity. But the identity comes first.

The surgery doesn’t “change” your gender, and trans people HAVE accepted the gender they are, often at great personal cost. The surgery is just changing the outside to better match the gender you already ARE. That’s the basic idea. Agree or don’t, but know what the idea is.
