And to experience or evince greater empathy for murderers than for their victims... even in the moment of expressing empathy... that should DEFINITELY encourage you to self-reflect and change course.
There is nothing in principle wrong with having empathy and compassion for all people, including history's great villains. However, that empathy must be expressed in a way that is also empathetic towards their victims.

We tend to romanticize power. Power induces sympathy in us, because we wish to see ourselves in power. That is a natural human tendency we need to break by actively practicing sympathy for those OUT of power.
