Could you imagine if Whitney had immediately followed The Bodyguard with a whole album of 50% midtempo Babyface grooves 50% Diane Warren/David Foster ballads??? With like two Mariah bops (think Dreamlover or Always Be My Baby, not Emotions/Make It Happen)??

The genius of Whitney's pop appeal was always the struggle between the machine music and her endlessly inventive, authentic vocals. It worked great with 80s pop, but I think it actually would have worked even BETTER with 90s white pop.

Honestly the vision of the Whitney Teenage Dream is like Wordsworth's vision of The Prelude, to me. Like, I just think if that record existed it would instantly and mythically and mystically save America and maybe the world.
