yes, it is very similar to rape being used not merely as a subplot, but as a way of saying something about the morality of a given character, and absolutely nothing about rape itself. I don't think we should tolerate either. And ummm... I don't think it was realistic at all, lol

There are racists who are good people in other ways, yes. That is "realistic" I suppose. But art doesn't just reproduce reality, art gives you a perspective on it. They chose to present a perspective on a violent racist cop that allowed the violent racism to fade from view.

And unfortunately, all too often, that would happen in real life! I think McDonagh is a good writer, and therefore someone who - without trying - reflects the time he lives in. If he tried to improve upon it, it may just seem false.
