We need a new term for the nascent intellectual grouping that includes these folks. Any ideas?https://twitter.com/Noahpinion/status/955549952628858880 …

I mean... I just think of those people as classical liberals, loosely, very committed to individual freedoms without much interest in how group identities shape the ability to exercise individual freedoms, or societal power dynamics, or righting historical inequities, etc., etc.

oh re: your earlier tweet, enlightenment is actually a better intellectual anchor for these folks I think. You might call them "enlightenment liberals" which in one sense should be sort of redundant, but I suppose isn't at all in modern context.

I personally would call them something like anti-contextual liberals bc imo they're interested in defending a liberalism that would be lovely if we all actually started from equal footing or if somehow there were a marketplace of ideas that operated outside of power dynamics.

but in the actual political and social context in which that liberalism is practiced... pragmatically if you did things the way they want, you'd just deepen existing inequality. Or at least, you wouldn't fix it.
