Also: Dave Chappelle really has turned into black Louis CK. Old and grumpy and complaining about how life has changed. Which of course raises the concern of whether there's something in his past BEHAVIOR that would give him a stake in all this but...
Will Dave Chappelle laughing about how he pretended to have grown up in the projects and middle class angst ever be declared Too Wrong To Be Funny? I relate (a lot) but will we ever consider that offensive?

It's sad tho bc there's a bunch of amazing jokes that are fucking great! If he did the fucking fishbowl bit the whole night it'd be like an 80s-90s Stevie Wonder album: not his best work of all time, of course, but so far above normal shit we're grateful for it.

but his preoccupation isn't anything about blackness in America, which is a shame, because Dave Chappelle's two hour riff essentially on the white overhearers in Niggas in Paris, which is imo his real subject, would be Important and Genius.

But instead, he riffs on "I think trans bodies are yucky!" and "I'm kinda sad that you're sad that I think trans bodies are yucky and I'm a comedian so I should never have to feel bad about what I say grrrrr!"

This is all to say, I think I made it 20 minutes into his latest Netflix special before I had to go ahead and give it on up. It's plenty of old niggas that survived the 90s and got stable that are on his wave and fine I guess I'm glad he exists for them. But it ain't for me.
