Old Judy sounds simultaneously like she could sing literally anything at any time and she had just enough voice for that last note.
Her thing was never effort though, it was always about everything being effortless.

In 1991 I bought the cassingle of Whitney singing the Star Spangled Banner at the SuperBowl. Her command of her own genius plus the weight of history&politics would reduce me to a little puddle on the floor with every listen. To this day it's still devastating on so many levels.
