I mean just... idk structuring a whole movie around a white guy being in love with jazz... again... like... must we? And of course we see a bunch of black musicians but are any of those actual characters who got paid as more than day players?

Sigh. Ryan Gosling is charming though. But like... what if the protag of this movie had been a black guy, you know? Would that have been so inconceivable? Like... you REALLY wouldn't rather see Chadwick Bozeman or Micheal B. Jordan as Savior of Jazz?

While I'm at it. What the actual fuck possessed them to cast JK Simmons instead of Denzel Washington in Whiplash? Like cmon white people Obama was president when both these movies got made we really still putting white ppl at the center of stories about JAZZ? REALLY?

(well I guess budget bc Denzel is more expensive than JK Simmons but ok what about Courtney B. Vance or maybe Anthony Mackie. Or like... what's Omar Epps been doing lately, he could've done that role maybe...?

What about Evil Stephen McKinley Henderson? Plausible? Perhaps?)

But Denzel's still the best option. Could you imagine Whiplash with fucking DENZEL WASHINGTON? It would have totally balanced out the fact that Miles Teller is not attractive.

at least he plays keys like my Fave Bill Evans. Bill Evans is up there with Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac and the white boys in Sade as like... MVP white musicians.

laughing SO hard at the fact that John Legend was obviously played/taught Pasek and Paul's version of his number and he said "uhhh... well... listen so... why don't y'all let me take a crack at it maybe? I just would feel more comfortable..."

homegirl is genuinely pretty damn good in this movie, even though she can't sing for shit. (at least in this film. I hear she was good in Cabaret? Which is... kinda shocking?)

k but your girl REALLY delivered on the acting and it is clear from the final song that her inability to sing was A Choice and like it was an AWFUL choice but at least I know she is actually capable of producing sound out of her mouth.
