Only 7 percent of Americans say that growing diversity makes their country a worse place to live. That's less than a quarter of the number who say that in the UK and Germany.pic.twitter.com/1RXGzHjnOK

Yeaahhhhhhhhh I promise I am truly a noble upholder of the "omg they're not all lying to the pollsters" position but for this one... idk we don't think maaaaaaaaybe social pressure is responsible for shifting SOME "negative effects" to "no effects"?
"Diversity" is also a general word. A lot more animus against certain specific groups.pic.twitter.com/7d4XZE4maI
Okay yeah that... looks a lot more like the America we know and and love with great ambivalence and heaviness of heart.
People in general are more likely to be scared of a specific group than of the general idea of having people of lots of different groups around.
Makes sense! And even if social pressure is responsible for some of the difference on the diversity question, the comparison is still pretty valid. (You could argue there's more social pressure here bc more diversity here, but surely not enough to erase the whole difference).
