Respect is the most famous example of her (or anyone) completely OBLITERATING the original with a cover, but she did that over and over and over. Just SLEW original artists left and right.

And Aretha would do it to ANYBODY. Black, white, rock, soul, country, disco, jazz, pop, no barriers. She was (and is!) unstoppable.

You Send Me, Say A Little Prayer, I Wish It Would Rain, Change is Gonna Come, Come Back Baby, People Get Ready, The Weight, Satisfaction, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Let It Be... even her version of Teach Me Tonight at 70-whatever... amazing.

even just the dumb little two line verse she added to Change Is Gonna Come is SO. GOOD.

Honestly Aretha is the Shakespeare of pop music vocals. Nobody invented more, nobody does it better, nobody is at her level, everybody steals from her, everybody derives from her, her throwaways are better than other famous artists' very best, her masterpieces are unsurpassed.

Even friggin Nessun Dorma! She slayed an operatic song she picked up last minute from Pavarotti cause he was sick. What is Aretha? Who is like her? Who can measure up? None will surpass.

and like, that's not to say Whitney (2nd best imo) and many other artists couldn't do some things Aretha couldn't/didn't. Not to say there are not GREAT singers before and since.

But just... Aretha is on a whole other wave. One of the greatest artists of the 20th century, no doubt.
