One of my very basic political claims is that the Constitution exists to manage divergent interests along the lines of geography/size of the states, so we gave power to land. Why not consciously manage the relevant interest divergences of our time?

The needs of Connecticut or Rhode Island are virtually indistinguishable from those of New York at this point. Or at least, the interest divergence there is much smaller than that between blacks and whites, or men and women, or Christians and Muslims, etc.

And you can tell bc Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York consistently vote for the same politicians. Not so for those other groups I mentioned.

There's a political POV from which this is a contradiction in terms but I think it is valuable and important to imagine what the counter-hegemonic state looks like (regardless of your preferred economic system, actually)
