absolutely. Counts for a lot. These less-racist coastal places are TONS better than a lot of other places. Not enough that I'd consider it healthy grounds for all Californians to warmly embrace America.
although I wonder if I would embrace "Californian" serving as a unifying identity for Californians? I would probably want to say yes, but ppl with more firsthand experience of oppression would probably caution me against that.

I feel like a lot of people think racism is this taint that we can expunge in a single generation, perhaps with a Revolution. Whereas I see it as an endemic disease, to be ground down over centuries. I'm happy to see any progress. And California has had some progress!
I think we can ameliorate the effects of racism very very quickly by coercing better behavior from governments and racists which merely requires a 67% supermajority of political power in the United States!! Nbd, super achievable right?? Emerging majority ftw!!
