3) If Dems had retaken the House in 2013, would he have pushed harder for a minimum wage hike? Would it have had a decent shot at success?
Some questions I am curious about: 1) Why did Obama not push to raise the minimum wage in 09-10 when he had (potentially) the political leverage to do so? 2) Were it not for the financial crisis, would he have passed minimum wage legislation?

I think a lot of Obama's economic legacy has to do with the fact that when Dems held the House and Senate, it was in the middle of a financial crisis and a sort of "no sudden moves, we don't know what will crash this ship" attitude existed.

I like to believe anyway that had Dems retaken the House in 2012 (when we won the popular vote!) that even with Mitch McConnell's intransigence, Dems would have passed a more aggressive workers' agenda. But maybe that's a fantasy.

But also we need to ask: how do we shift our mindset and the structure of our economy so that in times of financial crisis, a course of action that favors corporations over people isn't seen as a "safe" or "prudent" course of action?

And of course this has a lot to do with how we're all beholden to the stock market, and obviously the majority of funds in the stock market are controlled by the rich, who of course "lose confidence" when actions are taken that benefit the poor.

Anyway nationalize capital markets!! It's probably even legal under the Commerce clause!!
