and bc of the way white is set up---whiteness is asymmetrical to racialized identities---unless you put a lot of effort into hiding your blackness, white people will find out that your family is black and that will change your "whiteness" for them.

as long as that's the case, I would definitely encourage biracial people to at least not think of themselves as exclusively white, no matter how pale their skin tone.
