Third: HILLARY WON THE POPULAR VOTE. In 2016 we lost the House popular vote by 1 point (much more in 2014 but midterm elections, president's party, etc). In 2012 we won it. In 2016 we also won the popular vote in the Senate, just fyi.

Certainly if any American political party has the right to claim to be a "majoritarian" party, it is the Democratic party. So what does "majoritarian" mean?

Pragmatically? (And again, this is from left right center up down all directions.) Pragmatically "majoritarian" means straight, white, Christian. What they mean is, we do not attract enough straight white Christians to our party.

We don't have enough Archie Andrews, Archie Bunkers, June Cleavers and Betty Drapers. We don't have enough of what USED to be the norm and the majority in American society.

But even allowing for the mistake in conceptualizing the majority, what you have now is the core of the party. The center of the party are groups that have historically been underprivileged, and their allies.

So when we chase those votes that will turn us into a "majoritarian" party again (who, regardless of what flavor is preferred, are almost universally Caucasian), what do we owe to that core?

The interests and power of this majority coalition of underprivileged + allies are as legitimate as those of the white voters y'all say Democrats must chase in order to achieve governing power.

(meanwhile, if it was actually one man one vote in this country---and it's not at all, we balance interests according to geography---Dems would be able to govern just fine.)

So before you go off sprinting towards whatever white voters will have you (the Panera Bread voters, the pro-life voters, the working class voters, the noncollege voters, etc., etc.)

(I include the pure anti-Trump voters in this as well, btw. We happen to have them now but when the next Mitt Romney comes around who wants to fuck the poor gently and with kind words, are they Republicans?)

What assurances are you going to offer the current, ENTIRELY LEGITIMATE, core of the party that we won't be left behind and forgotten again? We're easy to forget. The whole society is set up to encourage you to forget us. Are you even aware of that?

What proof will you give your current non-governing majority that you're still with us before you go galloping off to acquire the supermajority our disastrous system requires Democrats to have in order to actually govern?
