It's fine to live off the surplus labor of others---with their consent. I assume many cultures have made a place for people who do not necessarily contribute materially to the social group---they don't build shelters, they don't find food. The community consents to support them.

What marxists call "labor aristocrats"---or arguably the overwhelming majority of "first world" labor---essentially live off of the surplus labor of others. Sometimes making beautiful or useful things we'd rather not do without.

The problem is, we live off of the surplus labor of others WITHOUT their consent.

As a side note, I think because Marxism is so committed to theory---I think a rationalist flaw that persists from long ago---the language is easy to pick and apply as critique without really understanding what you're talking about, like yours truly above. lol.

Although I suppose in plenty of those situations it wasn't REALLY by consent, lol. It was by the fiat of a ruler. No use idealizing the past to imagine the future.
